Hello Kindergarten Families! Yoga was a fantastic way to start the week! Ms. Rachael had a wonderful way of turning yoga into a kid-friendly activity and the class thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you to Hallie and the Davis family for gifting the lesson to us! We are so grateful. In Language Arts, we:

Hello Kindergarten Families! Get ready for the longest post of the year! We've had so much fun this week exploring the zoo, playing Blue and Gray games, and visiting the Cultural Bizarre, all in addition to learning! If any zoo chaperones have pictures to share, please send them to me and I'll happily add them here. Fairest colors Blue and Gray! On Monday, we visited the middle school's Cultural Bizarre! First, students filled in their very own passports in our classroom. Then they toured the stations in the Commons and played games as they earned stamps to complete their passports. In Math, we:

We had such a magical day with Grandfriends! Our day started with a warm welcome and student-led tours of the classroom. Next was Morning Meeting where we shared a greeting and the children presented their grandfriend stories. (I will display these treasures for a short time before sending them home!) Students and Grandfriends then rotated through the following centers:
Following the classroom activities, we proceeded to the art room where Mrs. Cogliano led a do-together portrait activity. Enjoy the photos! Thank you for sharing your family with us! Hello Kindergarten Families! This week in Language Arts, we:

Hello Kindergarten Families! Our week was filled with kindness and compliments and with sharing the joy of a new little brother! We welcomed baby Max to the Kindergarten family with a special message: Our Compliment Contest is going strong and we've already earned 4 scoops of ice cream, representing 4 days of having more compliments than complaints in our classroom. As you can see by the handmade messages below, the students are really taking ownership in this project! This week in Language Arts, we:

We began a new contest in our classroom! It's an updated version of the Kindness Contest that we had back in December but this time it's called the Compliment Contest. To take kindness a step further, our task now is to be generous with our compliments to one another and to notice when we hear compliments. The opponent in the Compliment Contest is complaints. The goal is to transform our complaints into kind requests instead. Tattling is a form of complaining and so we've been working on tattling as well. We discussed as a group the concept of tattling and how it can be hurtful to others. Students are working to decipher when it would be appropriate to inform a teacher about someone else's wrongdoing, when they should work to solve problems on their own, and when to ask for help.
Hello Kindergarten Families! We finished up our letter R studies with these drawings and writings about robots - aren't they fantastic?! If you haven't already seen their finished work hung in the classroom, take a look below. I'm incredibly proud of their hard work and thrilled to see students discover such success. They see themselves as writers! So how were these masterpieces created? We started with a directed drawing, added color, and then got to writing. After completing letter R, we moved onto letter C. We took a break from the classroom on Thursday to enjoy a performance by Cool Banana Wig! The whole class had such a blast! Lyn Hoopes visited our class to teach us the art of poetry writing. First, she read us a few of her poems while showing the photos that inspired her. Next, she shared the process of writing our own poem:
